QUALIFICATIONS- Driver's License & Credential
- School bus driver permit required.
- Ability to pass background checks, including drug screen and fingerprinting.
To safely transport SPED and McKinney Vento (homeless) students to their school of origin or assigned school, ensuring their attendance and educational stability. Driver must handle residents, parents, students and the public in a respectful and courteous manner. Driver must report any parent complaints immediately to the transportation supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTSalary, benefits and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. Part time, no more than 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities Pick-up & Drop-offTransport students along designated routes to and from school or program locations.
Ensure timely arrival in the morning and safe departure times in the afternoon.
Student Assistance & SupervisionHelp students board and exit the van safely, including securing seat belts, car seats, or safety restraints if needed.
Monitor behavior and maintain a secure environment during transit.
Vehicle Safety & ComplianceFollow all federal, state, and district traffic laws.
Perform pre- and post-trip safety checks, monitor vehicle maintenance, and report issues promptly to the transportation supervisor.
Documentation & CommunicationKeep accurate records of routes, passenger logs, and any incidents or delays.
Coordinate with the district’s McKinney-Vento liaison, SPED Director, school staff, and parents on pickup/drop-off arrangements, route changes, and student needs.
Experience, Skills, Abilities- Several years of safe driving experience
- Familiarity driving vans/buses
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Ability to manage youth behavior patiently and compassionately
- Driver(s) must have proficient knowledge of highways and regulations
- Ability and knowledge of how to deal with children with special needs
- Knowledgeable of how to scheduling and how to map out transportation routes
- Time management skills
- Knowledgeable of how to handle stressful driving conditions
- Ability to transport students to and from school or educational settings based on assigned or routes
- Complete weekly documentation and recordkeeping
