Position: Assistant Controller / HR Administrator

$100,000 – $130,000 Annually + Free Union Benefits + 401K Match, PTO

For over 80 years, we have been a well-established Chicago-based General Contractor, delivering high-quality construction projects throughout the commercial, healthcare, and hospitality markets. Our team partners with respected clients on projects ranging from hotels and hospitals to large-scale commercial facilities, building long-term relationships through consistency, integrity, and attention to detail.

We are seeking an Assistant Controller / HR Administrator to support both our financial operations and internal HR reporting and compliance functions. This role is approximately 80% accounting/finance and 20% HR administration, working closely with company leadership in a stable, team-oriented environment.

Accounting & Finance Responsibilities (80%)
  • Assist the Controller with daily accounting operations
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Support job cost accounting and project cost tracking

    Assist with monthly close, financial statements, and reconciliations
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and supporting documentation
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation
  • Work with project managers to ensure accurate cost reporting and allocation
  • Assist with cash flow tracking and financial analysis
HR Administration Responsibilities (20%)
  • Prepare and maintain HR reports related to headcount, compliance, and employee records
  • Coordinate interview scheduling and candidate communication for roles submitted by recruiting partners
  • Maintain employee personnel files and ensure accuracy and confidentiality
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including required employment documentation
  • Assist with payroll reporting and benefits administration support
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws
  • Support management with HR documentation, policies, and legal requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably within construction or project-based environments
  • Prior experience supporting HR functions, including reporting, compliance, payroll, or employee administration
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
