Role OverviewThe Director of Accounting will lead the company’s accounting function during a period of rapid growth and increasing complexity. This role will oversee month-end closing, technical accounting, external audit management, financial reporting, internal controls, cash management and ERP optimization. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, experience in a large highly acquisitive RIA or PE-backed services environment, and the ability to build scalable processes while maintaining a high bar for accuracy and control.
This is a critical leadership role partnering closely with the CFO and FP&A to ensure the finance organization scales effectively alongside the business.
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements
- Establish and maintain close calendars, reconciliations, and review controls as the business scales
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, setting clear standards and accountability
- Oversee accounts payable, cash management and daily treasury positioning.
- Manage to a weekly cash forecast and support quarterly shareholder distribution process
- Serve as the technical accounting authority for the organization, including:
- Purchase accounting for acquisitions and integrations
- Lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Equity compensation and share-based payment accounting
- Draft and maintain accounting policies and position memos in accordance with US GAAP
- Partner with M&A and FP&A teams to assess accounting implications of transactions and strategic initiatives
- Lead the external audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for audit and lender/investor reporting
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and PE reporting requirements
- Support lender, board, and investor reporting as needed
- Lead ERP optimization efforts, including requirements definition, process design, and process mapping
- Drive automation and standardization of accounting processes across acquired entities
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure systems support scalability, accuracy, and reporting needs
- Partner closely with the CFO on accounting strategy, organizational design, and process improvements
- Collaborate with FP&A to align actuals, forecasts, and reporting outputs
- Support post-acquisition integration efforts from an accounting and controls perspective
- CPA required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining “Big 4” public accounting and industry leadership
- Experience in a large, highly acquisitive RIA, wealth management firm, or PE-backed professional services environment strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, including business combinations, leases, and equity compensation
- Proven experience managing external audits and complex close processes
- ERP experience required (Workday or similar systems preferred)
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
