Senior Accountant – Statutory & GAAP Reporting Locations:
Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Compensation: $90, base + bonus
A privately held, multi-entity insurance organization with long-standing market presence is seeking a technically disciplined Senior Accountant to join its Financial Reporting team.
The RoleThe Senior Accountant will play a hands‑on role in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across statutory insurance entities and consolidated GAAP reporting. This position requires fluency in insurance accounting frameworks, strong reconciliation discipline, and the ability to contribute to financial statement preparation and reporting analytics.
This is not a transactional accounting position. It requires demonstrated experience in financial reporting and regulated accounting environments.
Key Responsibilities- Execute assigned components of monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles for statutory insurance reporting and consolidated GAAP reporting
- Prepare and review portions of financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and journal entry preparation
- Calculate expense allocations and assist with consolidation of financial information
- Support management reporting packages and perform ad‑hoc financial analyses
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting workflows and strengthen internal controls
- Document accounting procedures to enhance consistency and cross‑training
- Respond to internal leadership and audit requests for financial analytics and reporting support
This opportunity is designed for candidates who meet the following minimum criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- Minimum 3+ years of progressive accounting and/or audit experience
- Property & Casualty insurance experience
- Demonstrated understanding of U.S. GAAP financial reporting
- Working knowledge of insurance statutory accounting principles
- Experience preparing or supporting financial statements
- Strong Excel proficiency (advanced formulas, reconciliations, data analysis)
- Ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines within structured close calendars
- CPA designation (or active progress toward licensure)
- Experience with Oracle Fusion or comparable enterprise ledger systems
- Strong analytical judgment and technical accounting discipline
- Precision and attention to detail in regulated reporting environments
- Ability to operate independently while maintaining transparent communication with leadership
- Comfort working extended hours during quarterly and annual close periods
- A process‑oriented mindset with interest in control enhancement and reporting efficiency
This is a hybrid position requiring in‑office presence at least three days per week for candidates residing within commuting distance of one of the listed office locations. The role involves regular interaction via in‑person meetings, video conferencing, and phone communication, as well as occasional business travel when required.
