Summary of Position
The Accounting Intern is a seasonal position and will work with departments across the organization to ensure expenses are submitted in a timely manner and according to grant requirements. The seasonal Accounting Intern will ensure After School Matters has updated financial information as it relates to the organization’s grants. The seasonal Accounting Intern will also assist with accounts payable entries and provide general support to the Accounting team.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities
- Review grant expenditures for accuracy and compliance with grant requirements
- Prepare grantor‑required invoices and supporting documentation, timely and accurately based on grantor timelines
- Coordinate with Programs, Finance, and other departments to ensure compliance with Grantor’s requirements and guidelines
- Research and resolve any inquiries from Grant Sponsors.
- Enter and post AP invoices into the accounting system
- Assist with month‑end close tasks related to grants and AP
- Support the Accounting team with additional tasks as needed

Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Office
- Attention to detail, organization and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and assess work to meet aggressive deadlines during busy periods
- Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, clearly and effectively
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or currently enrolled in coursework in accounting or finance
- Experience with data entry or administrative work
- Experience handling receipts, invoices, or financial documentation in any setting
Compensation: $18 / hour
