State and Local Tax; SALT Intern

Job Overview

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. This internship role supports our state and local tax practice and is treated similarly to entry‑level staff. The intern will assist clients by providing tax consulting services, preparing tax returns, writing tax alerts, researching complex issues, and interacting with staff and clients.

• Provide tax consulting services related to state and local taxes, including income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes.
• Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns.
• Write internal and external tax alerts on current tax developments and emerging planning techniques.
• Research complex tax issues and produce conclusions via technical memoranda or verbal communication.
• Develop meaningful interactions with staff at all levels and with clients.
• Deepen knowledge of state and local tax as well as federal tax.
• Participate in training programs to enhance tax knowledge.

• Detail‑oriented leader with strong problem‑solving, communication, and analytical skills.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting; or a master’s degree in accounting or tax.
• Completed the first two entry‑level accounting courses and, at a minimum, currently enrolled in the first intermediate accounting course.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Must be pursuing an LLM, JD, or CPA license.

• Non‑exempt position; may require work hours that exceed the standard 40‑hour week.
• May require local, national, and occasional international travel.
• Compensation range: $33.00 – $36.00 per hour in CO, IL, OH, and MA.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, except for qualified bilingual candidates (Japanese/English or Chinese/English).
