Department Overview
The University of Chicago’s Biomedical Enterprise consists of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), and the Pritzker School of Medicine. BSD, the largest academic unit, is comprised of ten basic science departments, 13 clinical departments, and multiple centers and institutes, employing roughly 1,300 faculty and 3,000 staff members.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Manager of Accounting and Reporting, the Accounting Analyst performs operating activities critical to the monthly closing process. The role works closely with UCMC and BSD departments to manage intercompany transfers and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Responsibilities- Perform operating or cost accounting activities requiring knowledge of accounting principles.
- Process and review intercompany and intracompany transfers, and conduct related reconciliations.
- Assist in month‑end close by preparing and posting journal entries.
- Conduct variance analysis on BSD consolidated or departmental transaction activity.
- Ensure compliance with university accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Act as a resource for team members, explaining complex or sensitive information.
- Draft income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and related reports as authorized.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
- Minimum: college or university degree in a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in a related accounting or finance discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 5+ years experience in accounting and finance strongly preferred.
- Background in an academic medical center strongly preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines with frequent interruptions.
- Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer‑service orientation.
- Office environment.
- Weekend/Evening hours as needed.
Salary range: $70,000 – $100,000. Exempt under FLSA. Benefits eligible, including health, retirement, and paid time off.
