Kemper, a publicly-traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated individual to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago.

The Senior Accountant is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and SEC/GAAP/statutory financial reporting within the P&C segment of an insurance company. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek an analytical and detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual P&C accounting functions associated with Kemper's financial reporting.

Position Responsibilities:

* Prepare and review monthly journal entries

* Prepare and/or review monthly account reconciliations

* Consolidate company operating information for internal and external financial reporting

* Work with internal and external auditors and provide necessary support

* Prepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requests

* Actively identify, lead, manage, and complete process improvement projects

* Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements

* Prepare and/or review quarterly statutory-basis financial statements

* Additional responsibilities, as assigned

Position Requirements :

* BA/BS degree in Accounting

* 3-5 years of industry or public accounting experience.

* CPA or CPA candidate preferred

* Familiarity with US GAAP, familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plus

* Experience navigating a large ERP environment

* Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel

* Experience in Workday and Blackline a strong plus

* Ability to identify, analyze and solve accounting issues.

* Effective writing skills and strong attention to detail required.

* Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

* Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.

* Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.

The range for this position is $70,000 to $117,000. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors.
