Job Description & How to Apply Below

Edgehog Trading is a proprietary trading firm specializing in electronic options market making. We take a technology-driven approach, designing and operating automated, scalable systems to provide liquidity across markets.

Our team spans trading, engineering, and business operations, working together to build and support the systems that power the firm. We emphasize data-driven decision making, rigorous problem solving, and continuous improvement to navigate complex and evolving markets.

We operate in a highly collaborative environment where ideas can move quickly from concept to implementation, and where individuals are empowered to take ownership and contribute directly to the firm’s growth.

About the role:

We are looking for a Controller to own the firm's accounting and financial operations end to end, reporting directly to the CEO. This is the senior finance seat at Edgehog: you will own the books across multiple entities, including our broker-dealer, and you will also own the mid-office function that reconciles trading activity to the financial statements — clearing statements, fees, rebates, and P&L reconciliation.
Because we are a small team, the role is deliberately broad. Beyond the close, you will manage relationships with clearing brokers, exchanges, and external accountants, oversee treasury and margin funding, and run payroll and people operations. We would rather hire someone curious and adaptable than someone who fits a narrow job description, and we expect the shape of the role to change as the firm grows and as you find things worth owning.

What

you'll do:
  • Own month-end close & financial reporting: multi-entity close in Numeric, flux analysis, intercompany allocations/eliminations, partner capital/K-1 support, plus monthly/quarterly/annual and lender covenant reporting
  • Manage AP, expenses, and accounting controls: process AP, credit card, and reimbursements; maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Maintain mid-office reconciliation & clearing: reconcile trading activity to books (clearing statements, fees, rebates, interest), pursue fee/rebate discrepancies with brokers and exchanges, administer exchange memberships and incentive programs
  • Drive automation with engineering: partner on data pipelines and dashboards for clearing, fee, and margin reporting
  • Oversee treasury & broker relationships: day-to-day FCM/clearing broker relationships, margin and liquidity monitoring, funding wires, cash management, position transfers, and new account setup
  • Lead regulatory reporting & audit: daily net capital computations, FOCUS reporting support alongside FINOP, own the annual audit relationship, coordinate auditors/tax preparers/compliance consultants, prepare annual budget and forecasts
  • Run payroll & benefits administration: multi-entity payroll in Rippling, benefits/401(k), onboarding/offboarding, records retention
  • Support procurement: coordinate vendor and procurement processes as the firm scales
Qualifications and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
  • 6+ years in financial services, with experience as the primary owner of the books at a broker-dealer, proprietary trading firm, or fund
  • Strong working knowledge of exchange-traded derivatives, futures, and options, and the ability to reconcile positions and P&L across asset classes and clearing brokers
  • Experience with multi-entity or consolidated structures, including partnership or LLC entities with partner capital accounts
  • Comfort operating with real authority and little supervision: this role carries signing authority and is the only dedicated finance seat at the firm
  • High proficiency in Excel; comfort with SQL, BI tools, or AI-assisted workflows is a real advantage
  • Strong attention to detail with the judgment to investigate discrepancies and resolve them independently
Nice to Have:
  • Broker-dealer regulatory reporting experience;
    Series 27 is a plus, and we will support you in obtaining it, but it is not required — we have a part-time FINOP in place
  • Net Suite proficiency;
    Numeric, Rippling, and Ramp experience
  • Experience building or improving a mid-office or P&L reconciliation process rather than…
