Senior Accountant
Primary responsibility is the management of the monthly accounting close process; coordination of the annual budget development process, both operating and capital; monitoring of financial forecasts; analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this person will take complete responsibility for the financial functions including A/R, fixed assets, general ledger, financial reporting and the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
This person must also ensure all necessary systems are in place for proper internal controls and accounting record in accordance with GAAP.
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finances from an accredited college or university. At least seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience, including prior experience managing an accounting department. Must be experienced in fund accounting, in a complex nonprofit with multiple service programs. Must be experienced in a nonprofit environment and knowledge to assist program and other leadership in interpreting financial results of the agency is highly preferred.
The ability to identify and implement process improvements is required. Knowledgeable of computers, with the ability to understand accounting systems, PC spreadsheets, and other financial data systems is required. The ability to direct the creation of clear and concise financial reports to aid in the functioning of the Agency, relying on a strong analytical background, is required. Excellent oral and written communication and well-developed presentation skills are required.
Knowledge of and experience with MIP accounting software is highly preferred.
Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information
Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies
Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing a trial balance and reconciling entries
Summarizes financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss and other statements
Produces payroll by initiating computer processing; printing checks and verifying finished product
Completes external audits by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors
Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements
Facilitates and completes monthly close procedures
Submits bi-weekly federal draw downs with supporting documentation and maintain applicable documentation on site
Assists with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances
Prepares monthly account reconciliations
Assists with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements
Assists in documenting and monitoring of internal controls
Enters medical cash receipts into MIP (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payments)
Assists with the preparation of 1099 reports
Generates monthly rent collection and disseminate to Housing Managers and Finance Manager
Tracks of Ego Account
Monitors and prepares daily cash receipts and general locked box
Routes pre-authorized checks for authorized signatures, based upon the check amount magnitude
Assists with vendor invoices filing, file maintenance and storage
Prepares and scans checks
Assists finance administration with the annual operating and capital budget processes
and the execution and continuous improvement of financial systems and reporting, including monthly financial close processes, daily cash management, audit processes and controls, regulatory reporting and accounting and reporting of managed care operations
Assists in the management of the revenue cycle function of the organization
Ensures adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available so that all expenses may pass independent and governmental audits.
Ensures programmatic success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. This includes:
1) interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and contractual guidelines;
2) ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel and
3) monitoring compliance.
Oversees the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with government funds (computers, etc.) assuring all are in accordance with federal regulations
Assists the Finance Administrators and Executives on profitability analysis and forecasting
Oversees the daily accounting activities required to maintain an accurate general ledger.
