Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to play a critical role in the financial management of our development and redevelopment portfolio. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to take ownership of complex accounting and reporting responsibilities while working collaboratively across departments.

The Senior Property Accountant reports directly to the Property Accounting Manager and works closely with Development, Asset Management, Property Management, and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

As a senior member of the accounting team, you will provide financial oversight and accounting support for a growing portfolio of development and redevelopment projects. You will work closely with Development, Asset Management, Property Management, and Operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cost management, and informed business decision‑making.

Financial Reporting & Accounting:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Record and manage journal entries, including cash, accruals, depreciation, amortization, and development-related activity.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare lender draw packages and recurring financial reporting for financing partners.
  • Review, code, and approve invoices within the ERP system.
  • Assist with debt compliance reporting and lender requirements as needed.

Development & Project Accounting:

  • Serve as the accounting lead for assigned development and redevelopment projects.
  • Monitor development budgets, project costs, capital expenditures, and overall project financial performance.
  • Track construction‑in‑progress (CIP) activity and ensure proper capitalization of development costs in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Assist with project forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow planning.
  • Support accounting for real estate entities, partnerships, and joint venture structures as applicable.

Process Improvement & Special Projects:

  • Act as a subject matter expert for development and project accounting.
  • Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
  • Help strengthen internal controls and promote accounting best practices across the organization.
  • Serve as a resource for colleagues on accounting policies, procedures, and project accounting matters.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives that support the continued growth of the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
