Senior Payroll Specialist

Assignment Type: Temporary Contract – Approximately 3–5 Months

Pay: $37–$42/hour

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
- Hybrid

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Payroll Specialist to oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a large employee population.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage biweekly payroll processing for a workforce that includes both salaried and hourly employees.
• Support payroll for employees working across multiple states and tax jurisdictions.
• Review payroll data for accuracy and resolve discrepancies prior to final processing.
• Respond to employee questions related to pay, deductions, taxes, and other payroll matters.
• Calculate and reconcile payroll taxes and compensation-related transactions.
• Administer payroll deductions associated with retirement plans, loans, garnishments, and other employee programs.
• Coordinate payroll files and required information with external vendors and third-party administrators.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour requirements.
• Assist with payroll-related audits, including retirement plan, workers' compensation, and financial audits.
• Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
• Utilize ADP to process payroll, maintain employee payroll information, and generate reporting.
• Prepare and analyze recurring payroll expense reports.
• Develop customized and ad hoc payroll reports as requested.
• Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and other internal teams to maintain accurate employee and payroll records.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience independently managing or processing high-volume payroll.
• Experience supporting a multi-state employee population, including employees in states such as Illinois and California.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax requirements.
• Working knowledge of wage and hour regulations, including FLSA requirements.
• Experience processing payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees.
• Hands-on experience with ADP required;

• Ability to work independently and manage payroll deadlines with minimal oversight.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle confidential employee information.
• Position is expected to last approximately 3–5 months.
• Target start date is as soon as possible.
• Could be primarily remote schedule following initial training.
