Overnight Security Receptionist

Full‑time position.
Schedule:
Sunday through Thursday, 11 pm–7 am.
Pay range: $20–$21 per hour.

Purpose of PositionTo greet and screen all visitors; answer all incoming telephone calls and take messages as necessary; receive and record all donations; supervise the reception area and cameras; and serve as the ambassador for Mercy Home for Boys & Girls to anyone visiting the Agency.
In This Role, You Will- Monitor cameras and alarm systems for the entire campus, report and address any issues that may arise, and notify appropriate supervisors/Agency staff.
- Ensure all lights in common areas are off and doors/rooms are locked when not in use.
- Receive the general public by telephone and in‑person, providing information and directions for the entire organization.
- Represent Mercy Home for Boys & Girls in a helpful, courteous, and professional manner, demonstrating cross‑cultural sensitivity and discretion.
- Accept packages and donated items, inspect them, complete the Donation/Donor form, and process or distribute to the appropriate person(s) when applicable.
- Handle all phone calls promptly, check voicemail, and forward messages to the appropriate staff for follow‑up.
- Maintain a daily visitor log authorizing admission to the agency and manage front‑desk books/binders.
- Coordinate with staff to welcome guests and direct visitors as instructed.
- Have visitors sign in upon arrival and sign out when they leave.
- Track overnight passes, suspensions, and AWOL statuses for youth to ensure building security.
- Oversee the reception area while on duty.
- Ensure the reception desk is covered at all times when on duty, except during breaks or when a break is provided to the overnight staff in the absence of the Overnight Shift Leader.
- Monitor cameras for external transportation services for youth being picked up for school.
- Distribute van keys and gas cards to drivers for school routes and communicate any route changes when necessary.
- A pleasant disposition and helpful attitude.
- Experience in reception or customer service preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of the operating procedures of the entire Agency and staff.
- Ability to interact effectively with staff, residents’ families, volunteers, and the general public.
- Ability to work in an environment with a moderate noise level.
- Flexibility to provide administrative support as requested, including a flexible schedule when needed.
- Detail-oriented.
- Proficiency in PC systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to become proficient in other software packages.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as an active team member.
- Professional demeanor and boundary maintenance while exercising good judgment and discretion.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Physical ability to lift and/or move up to fifteen pounds.
- Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license, the ability to drive a van, maintain a clear driving record, and retain driving approval through the Department of Children and Family Services.
