Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading real estate tax firm focusing on the appeal of single-family homes and homeowner associations is seeking a full-time Tax Clerk for our Chicago, IL office. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Must be comfortable working independently yet be a team player. Must be able to efficiently manage multiple projects and exercise good judgment in dealing with highly confidential matters.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $30.22, contingent up level of experience. KSN offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, medical expense reimbursement plan, short and long-term disability, basic life/AD & D coverage, voluntary life insurance, critical illness, accident, hospital, and a retirement plan for those who are eligible.

Business hours for this non-exempt position are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. The position requires a minimum of 60-90 days of in-office training. After successfully completing this period, the role will transition to a hybrid schedule. The requirement will be discussed more during the interview process.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and distribute tax appeal invoices and denial letters.
  • Manage the Appeal.

    Tax website.
  • Provide support to the Tax Department for assessment appeals.
  • Review appeal documentation for accuracy.
  • Scan and profile appeal documentation into the document management system (iManage).
  • Obtain PIN numbers from the appropriate sources.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain assigned tax databases.
  • Organize and accurately input information into tax software and databases.
  • Assist attorneys with large document production projects.
  • Prepare Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • Draft, transcribe, edit, and file Tax Department correspondence.
  • Prepare invoice packages for clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of law firm/legal experience, required.
  • 1-3 years of administrative Real Estate Tax experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Cook County Recorder of Deeds and the Cook County Assessor websites.
  • General computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • iManage experience a plus!
  • Ability to learn specialized software of the firm.
  • Must be able to type >50 wpm with >90% accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to multi-task
  • Excels working in a team environment, with ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail.
