Position: Pitch and Pursuits Manager (Chicago or DC)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pitch and Pursuits Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the development of practice specific pitches and proposals and other marketing and business development materials. This hands‑on position will play a key role in pitch and proposal development activities, including fully supporting the Business Development and Marketing team and leading the team through a winning proposal.

This role may be filled in our Washington, D.C. or Chicago office. Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead key pitch, proposal and RFx's in designated practice areas or industries.
  • Actively collaborate with partners, BD leads, and other subject matter experts to develop clear, compelling, winning proposals.
  • Pose questions that encourage the team to consider all aspects of the client's position and draw out essential messaging and differentiating themes.
  • Develop, organize, and manage content for pitch and proposal documents and related collateral within the firm's proposal generator tool, when it is in place.
  • Manage contribution process and maintain version control.
  • Work with design to develop creative and information graphics.
  • Provide overall quality control for all pitch, proposal and pursuit materials; apply brand standards to pitches, proposals and presentations.
  • Track all pitch and proposal information required to develop reports for firm leadership.
  • Lead partner feedback process in order to ensure it is obtained and noted as it relates to after action intel gathering.
  • Participate in regular meetings to share best practices, information, problem solving, etc.
  • Develop and present activity reports that summarizes activity, success rate and progress on initiatives.
  • Engage with partners to resolve any conflicts and needs that might arise.
  • Demonstrate robust project management skills.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the Firm's attendance expectations.
  • Manage and train a team to support the needs of the Firm.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong abilities in Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Must be detail‑oriented with excellent client service skills and ability to prioritize.
  • A quasi‑journalistic ability to quickly grasp specialist knowledge and then make it clear for external parties.
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to “get smart quick” on a wide variety of topics.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience and foresight to anticipate potential issues and devise contingency plans.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel and diplomatically interact with difficult personalities.
  • Successful team player.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask within a fast‑paced, challenging, and deadline‑driven environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years of marketing in professional services. Experience in a pitch function and ability to lead and teach a team. Law firm experience beneficial. MBA or JD a plus but not required.
