Job Description

Abb Vie’s Business Evolution Strategic Development (BESD) Team develops and executes forward‑looking strategic plans to navigate potential healthcare changes, such as Most Favored Nations (MFN) and other price controls.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Director, BESD supports the development and implementation of forward‑thinking business and policy strategies that anticipate and adapt to future shifts. The Director’s insights directly support Abb Vie’s mission and goals, leading or supporting cross‑functional work streams to optimize strategy development in a changing external environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Initiatives: Spearhead innovative and competitive strategies to navigate pharmaceutical price reform, collaborating with cross‑functional and external experts.

  Partner with stakeholders across Government Affairs, Market Access, Legal, Finance, and Corporate Affairs to align enterprise goals and drive strategy forward.
• Environmental Analysis and Horizon Scanning: Monitor political, regulatory, legislative, and market dynamics and develop insight reports to inform strategic decisions.
• Business Value Evaluation: Identify opportunities with actionable recommendations, supporting compelling business cases to accelerate solutions.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Develop presentations for strategic communications, maintaining productive relationships with internal stakeholders.

• Strategy: Guide strategies and investments with an enterprise‑wide perspective.
• Execution: Deliver initiatives with urgency and agility, pivoting as needed.
• Action and Accountability: Advance execution across work streams, inspiring engagement and making informed decisions.
• Influence: Persuasively influence stakeholders to achieve strategic goals.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Integrate insights into strategy development and ensure seamless cross‑functional execution.

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 6‑8 years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, market access, or business strategy within pharma, consulting, government, or think‑tank settings.
• Strong business acumen and experience shaping policy and business outcomes.
• Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence without authority.
• Well‑honed political sensitivities, integrity, and executive presence for senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Team‑oriented, collaborative, and able to thrive in a demanding culture.
