The Athletic Business Coordinator will provide administrative support and financial processing support for all facets of the athletics business unit.

Job Description

The Athletics Business Coordinator reports to the Assistant Athletic Director of Business Operations and Strategy under the leadership of the Vice President and Director of Athletics.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Assistant Athletic Director of Business Operations and fiscal officer with the business functions of the athletic department.
  • Process travel authorizations and vendor payments in accordance with the university financial and procurement team.
  • Assist with Purchase Order processing and reconciliation to assigned cost centers.
  • Independently research and resolve problematic purchase, reimbursement, and/or other transactions.
  • Monitor and analyze athletic department financial processes and procedures to develop more efficient and effective procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Manage business activity to ensure proper and timely completion of requests submitted to the Business Office.
  • Assist with game day operations as assigned.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision of part‑time staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accountancy, business administration, management, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience in accounting, business administration, fiscal management, or closely related experience.
  • A combination of such education and/or work experience totaling three (3) years (36 months), as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
    • 60 semester hours or an associate’s degree equals eighteen (18) months
    • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with university systems and familiarity with university policies and procedures.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of financial and auditing policies, standards and procedures, cost analysis techniques, and accounts receivable and payable procedures and practices; established skills in fiscal management.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively use computer application programs and related software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, database, internet).
  • Accuracy, speed and completeness in performance of tasks.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to inclusion and diversity, including but not limited to differences in ethnicity, national origin, race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification and ability.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules is a condition of employment in this position.

Physical Requirement / Demands
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Position may require periods of sitting; required to stand for varying lengths of time.
Regular Activities
  • Ability to quickly change priorities.
  • Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours including nights and weekends as needed to satisfy needs for athletic contests and special/home events.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions.
