Architect in the enterprise data space is responsible for understanding data required to support core business capabilities and processes enterprise-wide, e.g., critical data for claims processing and data exchange. This would involve:
- Establishing standard data structures in business terms (e.g., conceptual and logical data models, definitions, relationships, etc).
- Understanding current state data and processes and identifying gaps / opportunities for improvement for enterprise implementation
- Partnering with business program and product managers to develop business case for investment and execution on data opportunities
Summary
- Works closely with business stakeholders and IT to align technical solutions with strategic business needs.
- Match strategic business objectives to enterprise business capabilities, processes, technology and data to provide input and recommendations on decisions that support achievement of key goals, planning, and execution for delivery of bottom-line business value.
- Must be able to work in partnership and facilitate cross-organizational sessions with senior business and IT partners across the organization to facilitate strategic discussions on priorities for their aligned stakeholders.
- Responsible for development and maintenance of strategic roadmaps and for supporting the development of portfolio submissions and business cases that will provide strategic intent, value and synergies across strategies and capabilities in order to help prioritize recommendations for delivery.
- Align data shared across the enterprise with the Enterprise Capability Model, business processes, supporting technology and strategic business initiatives. Identify the relationships between those data and the various data flows.
- Identify strategic, core and support processes that transcend functional and organizational boundaries. Identify and describe external entities such as customers, suppliers, and external systems that interact with the business. Describe people, resources, controls, and data are involved in the processes.
- Build and maintain a heat map to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Define what we do as a business data domain to achieve our strategic goals in a common business language and structure.
- Develop a business architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations.
- Apply structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the enterprise, partnering with existing enterprise Business Architecture team to leverage tools and best practices.
- Update strategy artifacts (vision, value, metrics, core beliefs, strategy decomposition trees and roadmaps) as needed to ensure they are always current.
- Partner with the Portfolio and Program Managers to support the Portfolio submission and Lean Business Case process for strategic investments.
- Ensure traceability from Strategy to execution.
- Partner with the Stakeholder owners to ensure taxonomies are current and accurate.
