Overview of RoleThe Cost Estimator is responsible for all independent construction cost control functions, including the review of construction project change orders, preparation of complete estimates, value analysis, schedule of values, comparisons, feasibility studies, and historical cost reports. This individual can perform cost control functions on multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously and should have the ability to identify opportunities within a project that add value and help successfully accomplish the client’s desired outcomes.

Essential Functions- Preparation of construction related cost estimates, cost plans, and cost strategies
- Change order reviews and valuations of work in progress and bid analyses
- Preparation of studies and plans on value engineering, life cycle costing, and sustainable practices
- Preparation of work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Identification of labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
- Computation of costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements
- Resolution of discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
- Presentation of prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information
- Preparation of special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Maintenance of cost database by entering and backing up data
- Maintenance of technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications
- Contribution to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned
- Contribution to team performance through collaboration and effective communication
- Understanding of the client’s desired project outcomes and identification of opportunities to add value
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field (required)
- Recent experience and specialty in electrical and mechanical cost strategies
- Cost control experience in the commercial/institutional/industrial sector, concentrating on vertical construction
- Experience with conceptual and detailed measurement/pricing
- Experience in the CMGC / GCCM process
- Experience with estimating software systems, on‑screen takeoff software, and BIM
- Professional certifications preferred
- Indoor office environment; may require onsite work when necessary
- Equipment used includes computers and standard office machines
- Essential physical tasks: ability to work on a computer and answer/speak on a telephone
