What we are looking for:
We are seeking an experienced Substation General Superintendent to lead field execution across a diverse portfolio of substation projects. Our portfolio of work spans transmission, distribution, and collector substations and switchyards. The work is primarily AIS but we also perform GIS in both greenfield and brownfield environments. In this role, you will provide leadership and oversight to General Foremen, Foremen, and skilled journey-level craft personnel across multiple substation construction sites in multiple states.
You will direct all substation crews and assume full responsibility for the installation, testing, and commissioning of substation systems company wide. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, substation technical expertise, and project management skills, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality specifications, and project timelines.
- Provide on-site leadership for all substation construction activities, including civil, structural, electrical, grounding, protection and control, and commissioning support.
- Recruit substation craft personnel to meet the schedule requirements for various concurrent projects.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to support effective field execution and push the development of future substation field leaders as we continue to build out our substation capabilities company wide.
- Plan, schedule, assign and supervise the work of self-perform craft personnel and subcontractors on various types of substation construction.
- Interpret and explain specifications, plans and work projects with assigned staff.
- Reviews ongoing work for adherence to job specifications, safety policies, and project timelines.
- Oversee material deliveries, equipment usage, and site logistics to support efficient field operations.
- Contribute to discussion on estimating costs, manpower need, and time necessary for completion of various projects.
- Coordinates work with Project Management and General Foreman on various concurrent projects.
- Ensures that staff is supplied with tools, materials, and equipment for completion of assigned projects.
- Instructs and advises staff on changes in policies, procedures, and work standards.

- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily work activities for internal crews and subcontractors to meet project schedules and milestones.
- Enforce all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and company safety standards; ability to lead daily tailgate meetings and actively promote our strong safety culture.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and work plans to ensure accurate execution and alignment with engineering intent.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Safety, Quality, and Procurement teams to resolve field issues and maintain workflow.
- Track progress against the schedule and proactively identify risks, delays, or resource constraints; recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with plans, specs, applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NESC and utility standards.
- Review Bill of Materials and support development of overall materials, equipment, and manpower needed to perform the tasks.
- Ensure field crews maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, manpower tracking, safety documentation, and quality records.
- Participate in inspections, testing, and commissioning activities as required, support punch list completion and project closeout.
- Serve as a professional representative of the company with clients, inspectors, utility representatives, and other stakeholders on site.
