Job SummaryThe Assistant Construction Manager (ACM) will plan and execute construction projects to meet the project manager and client’s expectations. This includes managing efforts from the internal team and third-party consultants and construction contractors. This candidate will work with the project manager to gather and analyze data to estimate the amount of money, time, materials, and labor required to complete construction projects.
Experience in construction, means and methods, and construction document reading for site planning, grading, drainage, and erosion control plans. The ACM is also expected to apply working knowledge of construction safety and environmental compliance (EHS) to project planning and field execution, partnering with the EHS function to uphold a safe, compliant job site. ACM will split time between managing construction projects in the field primarily with some remotely.
Responsibilities
- The Assistant Construction Manager will not have supervisory responsibilities.
- Work with the Construction Manager, Project Manager, Engineering Manager, or Director of Engineering to determine project scope and define requirements.
- Organize, monitor, and control construction project costs in accordance with contractual requirements and Company procedures.
- Proactively communicate with the Project Manager and Director of Engineering regarding forecasted costs that may exceed the approved budget, or when suppliers indicate potential reliance on change orders.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers to ensure proposed scope of work is understood.
- Manage contractors throughout project execution while ensuring all work is performed safely and in compliance with company safety expectations.
- Partner with the EHS function to apply working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (construction) standards to project planning, pre-job hazard reviews, and field execution.
- Verify contractor safety prerequisites prior to mobilization, including site‑specific safety plans, JHAs, competent person designations, and required training/certifications.
- Conduct or support routine jobsite safety walks; identify hazards, document corrective actions, and escalate stop‑work conditions in alignment with the Company's Time Out for Safety expectations.
- Support incident response, near‑miss reporting, and post‑incident learning (including Lessons Learned) in coordination with Safety & Compliance.
- Ensure environmental controls are implemented and maintained on site, including erosion and sediment control, spill prevention and response, and waste handling.
- Ensuring contractor means and methods are sound.
- Knowledge of logistics/civil engineering processes and materials.
- On‑site support on projects.
- Helping to train field operatives on construction processes and procedures, and essential operational knowledge.
- Coordination with Field Operative or Project Manager on a daily basis.
- Aptitude to succeed in fast‑paced and deadline‑oriented environment.
- Manage construction projects effectively from proposal to close‑out and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to lead external‑facing calls and speak knowledgeably to projects assigned to them with suppliers and the customer, as needed.
- Knowledge of industry related information and technologies, including WTG components, trailer configurations, and OEM sourcing strategies 6 months after hiring.
- Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to formulate report documents for route feasibility studies.
- Shows complete understanding in all drone related operations, including ability to configure, operate, and travel with the drone independently to support project requirements as needed.
- Ability to travel. Location and travel requirements will vary based on active construction projects. Travel may range from up to 5 consecutive days for smaller projects to approximately 1–4 trips per month for larger projects.
