EHS / HSE Manager, Operations Manager
We are seeking a new Field Safety Manager to join our team. Your role will be to implement and oversee all aspects of the corporate safety program. Your position is typically utilized on large project sites, however, may assume total responsibility for safety on smaller projects. You will assist in overall supervision and administration of project safety, accident, and fire protection programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
As a member of the Safety Team, you will work with the Risk Management team.
- Oversee coordination of safety and health for all employees of McHugh, its subcontractor, vendors, and owners.
- Implement project safety programs with McHugh and subcontractors.
- Assist in planning and coordinating work to minimize risks, and aid in managing losses involving injuries or property damage.
- Initiate, coordinate and conduct safety meetings and training programs to ensure effective communication of company policy and safety standards.
- Coordinate and control the development and review of job hazard analysis for each major phase of our work to ensure its safe completion, including assessing the need for and facilitating the training for each JHA as may be required.
- Facilitate orientation of all project employees to the safety practices required by the Company.
- Conduct daily comprehensive safety assessments utilizing Procore or any other system as directed.
- Make recommendations to project management for corrective measures for unsafe conditions and enforce them when necessary.
- Conduct accident investigations and complete incident reporting for Risk Management review.
- Ensure injured employees are accompanied to treatment and medical evaluation and ensure all risk management protocols are followed.
- Advise Project Management on industrial hygiene protocols; perform environmental monitoring or as directed.
- Issue permits to work as needed for hot work, confined space, slab disturbance, critical crane picks, etc.
- Accompany safety, health and insurance inspections on walk‑through tours as required.
- Keep current on new developments regarding safety laws, rules and regulations and PPE.
- Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
- Have other duties and responsibilities as required.
- A four‑year occupational safety/health degree preferred.
- 2–6 years construction safety experience or an equivalent combination of training and related experience.
- A valid driver’s license for operation of a company‑provided vehicle. MVR will be conducted.
- Knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations required, OSHA 1926 standards, and other state and federal agency guidelines.
- Ability to recognize hazardous jobsite conditions and implement corrective measures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency with company computer systems.
- Ability to work in a high‑production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
- Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our work.
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) certification preferred. OSHA 30‑hour, First Aid/CPR, and AED certifications required within three months post‑hire.
- Required to stand, walk, sit and climb stairs or ladders.
