Operations Manager, Site Manager, Civil Engineering
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Superintendent to lead field operations on complex heavy civil and infrastructure construction projects throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. This role is responsible for overseeing all onsite construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, extensive civil construction experience, and the ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, equipment resources, and project schedules in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage day-to-day field operations for heavy civil construction projects including earthwork, underground utilities, grading, roadway, bridge, and infrastructure improvements.
- Coordinate and supervise craft personnel, subcontractors, equipment operators, and field engineers.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and site-specific requirements.
- Develop and maintain short-term and long‑term construction schedules in collaboration with project management teams.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure accurate execution of work.
- Monitor productivity, manpower utilization, equipment usage, and material quantities to optimize project performance.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to engineering standards.
- Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and maintain project continuity.
- Lead weekly coordination meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with owners, engineers, inspectors, municipalities, and utility representatives.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, safety documentation, and progress updates.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
- Mentor and develop assistant superintendents, foremen, and emerging field leaders.
- Minimum 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience, including 5+ years in a superintendent or senior superintendent role.
- Proven experience managing large-scale civil infrastructure projects valued at $20M+.
- Strong background in excavation, utilities, concrete, roadway, grading, and site development operations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, sequencing, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency with construction management software and reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the Chicago area.
- Experience with DOT, municipal, aviation, rail, or industrial infrastructure projects.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience managing self‑perform construction crews and heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites daily.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds when required.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as project demands require.
