Shirley Parsons is partnered with a leading organization to identify a Site Safety Representative to support a large-scale distribution center project in the Chicago area. This individual will serve as the primary safety representative on site, responsible for driving a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance across all contractors and project teams.
Location: Chicago, IL
Start Date: ASAP
Estimated End Date: July 2027
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and enforce site-wide safety programs in alignment with OSHA and company standards
- Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
- Facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for field personnel
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; implement corrective actions
- Partner with project management and subcontractors to proactively identify and mitigate risks
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and compliance records
- Serve as the main point of contact for all safety-related matters on site
- Develop and implement site-specific safety plans, policies, and procedures
- Review and approve subcontractor safety plans, JHAs, and method statements prior to work activities
- Monitor high-risk activities such as confined space entry, fall protection, crane operations, and electrical work
- Lead incident review meetings and track corrective actions to closure
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and client-specific requirements
- Conduct safety performance evaluations and provide coaching to supervisors and field teams
- Track and report key safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near misses) to project leadership
- Support pre-construction planning by identifying potential safety risks and recommending mitigation strategies
- Coordinate with third-party inspectors, auditors, and client safety representatives during site visits
- Enforce PPE requirements and ensure proper use of safety equipment across all trades
- Assist with emergency response planning, drills, and on-site incident management
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, recognition programs, and behavioral-based safety initiatives
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of construction safety experience, specifically on data center projects
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
- Experience working in union environments is a plus
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- OSHA 30 required; CHST or higher certification preferred
- Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and influence teams in a fast-paced environment
