Position Overview

Veritas Building Group is seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations for two Chicagoland projects and support future Veritas commercial construction projects.

The Superintendent will serve as the primary Veritas representative on the jobsite and will be responsible for managing construction activities from mobilization through final completion and turnover.

This is a hands-on field leadership position for an experienced commercial construction professional who can independently manage a project, coordinate multiple subcontractors and trades, maintain an aggressive construction schedule, enforce safety and quality standards, and communicate effectively with the project management team and client.

Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Project Execution
  • Lead and manage all daily on-site construction activities
  • Serve as Veritas Building Group's primary field representative and maintain a professional presence with the client, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, design professionals, and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, equipment, and site personnel.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the complete project scope, drawings, specifications, schedule, subcontractor responsibilities, and owner requirements prior to and throughout construction.
  • Plan and coordinate daily and weekly construction activities to maintain project momentum.
  • Lead subcontractors in the proper sequencing of work and ensure adequate manpower is available to meet project milestones.
  • Identify field conflicts, scope gaps, constructability issues, and potential delays early and work with the Project Manager to develop solutions before they affect the project.
  • Coordinate site logistics, material staging, deliveries, temporary facilities, waste removal, access, and jobsite security.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and client-ready jobsite.
Scheduling & Coordination
  • Manage the field execution of the overall project schedule.
  • Develop and maintain detailed short-term and two-week look-ahead schedules .
  • Coordinate upcoming work with subcontractors and confirm manpower, materials, equipment, inspections, and information are available before work is scheduled to begin.
  • Monitor daily progress against the schedule and immediately communicate potential delays or constraints to the Project Manager.
  • Hold subcontractors accountable for schedule commitments and proactively develop recovery plans when necessary.
  • Coordinate work around client operations, site restrictions, deliveries, inspections, and other project-specific requirements.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and provide accurate field updates regarding progress, schedule, manpower, upcoming activities, risks, and required decisions.
Quality Control
  • Ensure construction is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, submittals, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and Veritas quality standards.
  • Review project plans and specifications prior to installation and verify subcontractors understand their scope and installation requirements.
  • Conduct regular jobsite walks to evaluate workmanship, progress, and compliance.
  • Identify deficient or incomplete work and drive subcontractors to make corrections promptly.
  • Review layout, critical dimensions, finishes, and key installation requirements before work progresses.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to finish quality and final presentation.
  • Manage punch-list activities aggressively and drive each project through final completion rather than allowing outstanding items to linger.
Safety
  • Maintain a safe jobsite and actively promote a strong safety culture.
  • Enforce Veritas, OSHA, subcontractor, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices.
