Construction Superintendent MEP - FP

We are hiring an experienced MEP Fire Protection Superintendent to lead field execution for a major airport program in Chicago. This is an on-site role focused on safe, high-quality delivery in a live airport environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day field supervision of fire protection and MEP contractors, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality installations.
  • Coordinate phasing and work sequencing in active airport facilities, minimizing operational impacts while maintaining schedule discipline.
  • Drive compliance with standards, applicable building/fire codes, and contract requirements; support inspections and testing with AHJ, airport, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee installation of fire suppression systems (e.g., wet/dry/foam, pre-action, clean agent), fire alarm/detection, and related MEP interfaces.
  • Manage field operations including submittal conformance, redlines/as-builts, punch lists, and system turnover documentation.
  • Support testing, inspection, and commissioning and drive deficiency closure to achieve system acceptance.
  • Maintain field records, daily reports, and contribute to cost and change documentation.
  • Responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities.
  • Act as a team liaison for day to day activities,
  • Coordinate with client's resident representatives on jobsite activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Engineering/Construction Management and 6 years of demonstrated construction experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Requirements:

  • Airport construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge/experience with MEP systems.
  • Experience with Fire Protection systems.
  • Experience with Chicago Building Code and Fire Prevention Code.
  • Experience in trade coordination.
  • Experience with large construction projects (100MM+) phasing, and complex shutdowns/cutovers.
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes and integrated testing for life safety systems.
  • Ability to manage site operations, resolve issues and report to management.
  • OSHA certification.

Physical Demands:

  • The following physical demands represent those typically required of individuals working in construction field roles, with or without accommodation. Construction field positions require physical stamina and mobility, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs, use personnel hoists, and move through various terrain and active construction zones. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Team members must be capable of using their hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted may be necessary on an occasional basis.

Work Environment:

  • Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation. These environments may include proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks. Noise levels may vary from moderate to high depending on the phase of construction. Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and must remain alert to ensure safety.

    Additional duties may be assigned as needed based on the scope and progress of the project.
