The Mystery League creates immersive puzzle experiences. We design and produce live puzzle hunts, virtual team-building games, museum installations, tabletop escape games, and ARGs for clients including the Museum of Science and Industry, Alinea, and Field Notes.
The RoleWe're seeking a creative and detail-oriented Puzzle Production Assistant to join our team in crafting memorable puzzle experiences. This position offers hands-on involvement in the entire puzzle creation process—from initial concept to final execution.
What You'll Do- Research and develop content for innovative puzzles
- Help host virtual and in-person puzzle events
- Craft physical puzzle objects and prepare materials for events
- Assist with puzzle and event design
- Help build our daily Raddle word transformation game
- Support our team with sales, marketing, and social media initiatives as needed
- The craft of puzzle-making
- Event planning and production processes
- Creative problem-solving in a collaborative environment
- Client management and project execution
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Solid writing abilities and communication skills
- Research aptitude and critical thinking
- Ability to take initiative and manage your time well
- Creative mindset and willingness to contribute ideas
- Proficiency with Google Sheets
- Comfort with the iterative and sometimes vulnerable nature of creative work
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a collaborative setting
- Your own laptop computer (Mac preferred, but PC acceptable)
- Ability to work in-person in Edgewater, Chicago
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
- Background in game design, theater, or interactive experiences
- Interest in puzzles, escape rooms, or mystery games
- Designing interactive games for cultural institutions like the Field Museum
- Creating new tabletop escape game experiences
- Developing online puzzle hunts like our Pilcrow Bar project
- Building alternate reality games (ARGs) similar to our project for Watsky or Field Notes
- Creating engaging trivia rounds and questions
