The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. A hybrid work schedule is offered: three days in the office and two days working remotely. This role is located in Chicago.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement communications strategies that promote AHA resources to members and the public.
- Lead efforts to create communication products that deliver high value to members and position the AHA as a thought leader.
- Conduct research and develop content for a wide range of products, including news articles, e‑newsletters, press releases, blogs, reports, website copy, emails, videos, podcasts, presentations, scripts, and white papers.
- Write, edit, and proofread content for distribution to AHA members, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure all content is consistent, on‑brand, and adheres to AHA style guidelines.
- Maintain the content on assigned webpages on a regular basis.
- Contribute to team meetings and stay up to date on AHA activities by closely following AHA and industry publications and websites.
- Attend assigned conferences and help produce blogs, podcasts, and videos.
- Understand AHA audiences and stakeholders to deliver appropriate, relevant, and credible content.
- Recommend strategies to help drive member engagement with AHA communication products.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
- Five or more years of professional writing and editing experience.
- Experience writing or editing electronic newsletters.
- Experience writing or editing on health care issues.
- Advanced editing and writing knowledge.
- Background and understanding of journalism and constructing news stories.
- Knowledge of Associated Press style.
- Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) skills.
- Familiarity with video creation and editing software.
- Preferred knowledge of a marketing automation platform, such as Real Magnet.
- Preferred familiarity with a website content management system.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work successfully with senior executives, policy experts, lobbyists, legal and communications staff.
- Ability to handle shifting priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to translate complex issues into clear, accurate, and persuasive prose.
- Ability to develop clear messages and customize them for a variety of audiences.
Commensurate with related experience. Salary range:
Minimum $79,000, Midpoint $99,000, Maximum $119,000.
