Freelance Camera Operator

Join a dynamic live entertainment production capturing a professionally staged comedy performance at a renowned Chicago venue. This opportunity is ideal for experienced camera operators passionate about live events and digital content creation. The role involves filming a multi-camera comedy show for digital distribution, promotional campaigns, and potential streaming releases. The event takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at iO Theater, with a crew call at 8:30 PM and wrap by 12:45 AM.

You will work closely with the producer and fellow operators to ensure comprehensive coverage of both the performance and audience reactions. This project offers the chance to contribute to a premium entertainment brand and may lead to future collaborations on additional productions.

Responsibilities
  • Operate an assigned camera to capture dynamic, high-quality footage of the live comedy performance and audience.
  • Coordinate with the producer and other camera operators for seamless multi-camera coverage.
  • Attend a brief pre-show production meeting to review shot lists and event logistics.
  • Ensure all footage is recorded in the required format and delivered promptly after the event.
  • Set up and break down camera equipment efficiently within the event schedule.
  • Maintain professional conduct and adaptability in a fast-paced, live event environment.
Skills And Requirements
  • Proven experience operating professional cameras in live event or performance settings.
  • Familiarity with camera packages such as Sony FX3, A7S III, Canon R5, C70, Panasonic S5

    IIX, or Blackmagic Cinema Camera preferred.
  • Must provide own camera and tripod; additional gear is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of multi-camera production workflows.
  • Ability to follow direction and collaborate effectively with production staff.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work late evening hours on July 25, 2026.
  • Must be able to deliver original footage immediately after the event.
  • Based in or able to travel to Chicago for the production date.
