A Red Orchid Theatre is seeking a collaborative, highly organized, relentlessly curious, and artist-centered Artistic Producer to support the overall artistic life of the organization by supporting season programming, advancing new work development, and fostering meaningful relationships with artists. Working closely with the Artistic Director and collaborating across artistic, production, and administrative teams, this hands‑on role ensures cohesion, efficiency, and excellence across season programing and artistic initiatives while strengthening the systems that support AROT’s continued growth.

The Artistic Producer will driveAROT’s literaryprocessesand new play development efforts, in collaboration with the Artistic Ensemble, helping maintain a strong pipeline of future work.

This is a hands‑on, relationship‑driven role for someone who loves being in the room.

Key Responsibilities Artistic Producing & Season Support
  • Support the overall artistic life of new and ongoing programs to uphold and maintain AROT’s artistic standards across productions and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with artistic leadership and ensemble to ensure alignment between organizational goals and artistic output, including season planning and artistic strategy.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to coordinate production timelines, workflows, and communication, including special events, readings, workshops, and artistic community engagement opportunities.
  • Work closely with the administrative and production staff to help develop systems and structures that improve efficiency and support long‑term organizational growth.
  • Attend rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances as needed to support artistic teams, uphold the director’s vision, and ensure productions meet A Red Orchid Theatre’s standard of artistic excellence.
Literary Programming and New Work Development
  • Actively seek out plays and playwrights that align with AROT’s artistic identity, including cultivating relationships with agents and playwrights who reach out directly.
  • Delegate play reading and discovery to Literary Associates, keeping them on task and serving as their coordinator and main point of contact.
  • Pitch to and receive literary pitches from AROT’s Artistic Ensemble for season programming.
  • Maintain and manage AROT’s play curation documentation process, ensuring Literary Associates are completing evaluations and that the organization has a living record of work that’s been considered.
  • Help facilitate in‑house readings of work that merits further development or consideration.
Qualifications
  • Experience in theatrical producing, artistic administration, casting, and literary management.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; experience in supervising and coordinating teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience working in collaborative, ensemble-driven environments.
  • Familiarity with storefront theatre, ensemble-based work, and new play development preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by production schedules.
  • Existing relationships within the Chicago theatre community are a plus.
