Production Technicians candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in video, film, television or related communications field, 2-3 years of work experience in the industry, and some experience with production truck and studio operation and engineering.
Required Production Truck and Field Production Competencies- Must be able to drive and park production truck
- Must be able to set up production truck (all physical tasks associated with truck shoot)
- Must be able to engineer production: use of scopes for phasing cameras, white balance, adjust iris during shoot, synchronizing audio board to record deck, announcer headsets and microphones, operation of CG, set up of additional cameras or video sources, and troubleshooting any potential problems.
- Must be able to direct a multi-camera production truck shoot
- Must be able to set up field lighting when necessary
- Must be able to independently set up a single camera shoot (tripod, power supply, lighting, audio) and engineer for said shoot (filter, iris, white balance, audio levels)
- Must know how to effectively cover events with a single camera
- Must know how to shoot b-roll footage
- Must know how to use multiple audio sources with a single camera
- Must be able to engineer production (see above)
- Must know how to create effective studio lighting (3-point lighting)
- Must know how to set appropriate audio levels
- Must be able to direct a multi-camera studio shoot
- Must know all floor director commands and signals
- Must be able to assume any crew position for studio shoots
- Must be able to do effective and efficient non-linear editing
- Must have proficiency with one of the following:
DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere - Must be able to complete projects in a timely fashion (approximate ratio: length of raw footage multiplied times 4 = the amount of hours it should take to complete project)
- Must be able to troubleshoot use of the above non-linear editing systems
- Should have additional proficiency with a non-linear editing system or an accessory system: AVID, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photo Shop
- Inventorying, maintenance, and clean up of equipment, truck, and facilities
- Inventorying, maintenance, and clean up of tape archives
- Assistance on productions or projects in studio, with truck, or in the field
