Copy Editor of The Xavierite - Student Employment

Copy Editor Position

The Copy Editors are in charge of proofreading the entire paper before publication. They will also assist Xavierite staff members improve the writing style of their article before publication. This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen the following competencies:

• Professionalism:
  Students build professionalism by practicing dependability, accountability, confidentiality when applicable, workplace etiquette, and respectful service in a workplace setting.
• Teamwork:
  Students build teamwork skills by collaborating with supervisors, staff, and peers to support department goals, assist others, and contribute to a positive work environment.
• Technology:
  Students build technology skills by using department systems, software, digital tools, equipment, or university platforms to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
• Communication:
  Students build communication skills by practicing clear, respectful, and professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in a workplace setting.

• In charge of proofreading all articles that will run in The Xavierite publication and on the official website following the AP style.
• Proofreads rough draft tear sheets of the newspaper and magazine.
• Assists staffers with writing and style of article when necessary.
• Informs Editor-in-Chief when stories are not turned in on time.
• Attends general staff meetings.
• Maintain weekly-posted office hours in The Xavierite office (5 hours per week).
• Checks and edits content for accuracy of style throughout the entire paper and E-magazine.
• Checks for libelous and litigious statements.

MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY

Must be Federal Work Study Eligible

Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter Preference in journalism, communication, or English.
