Editorial Fellow

Apply to be a 2025 Bulletin Editorial Fellow

The Bulletin is seeking new editorial fellows in two subject areas: biosecurity and disruptive technology/AI. Fellows will be announced in September and are chosen by the Bulletin's editor-in-chief in consultation with the CEO and editorial staff.

Bulletin Editorial Fellows have significant experience, an established record of publishing quality work, and recognition as an emerging leader in their respective fields. Fellows produce four pieces per year and are compensated per published article. A designated editor works closely with each fellow to shape and develop their stories.

The Bulletin will provide an honorarium of $750 per published piece for up to four articles per year and cover limited and very occasional travel costs and incidental expenses. Fellows agree to help with the promotion of their work for the Bulletin and to include their affiliation with the Bulletin in those promotional efforts, which may include interviews with other media organizations.

The Bulletin's Editorial Fellows Program attracts, supports, and compensates new columnists committed to reporting on existential threats. This program is part of a long-term organizational commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion designed to intentionally promote a greater diversity of viewpoints and lived experiences on the Bulletin's platform.

The program rests on the understanding that science is expected to advance more in the next 40 years than in all human history. This rapid advancement will raise political and ethical questions that will shape the safety of our planet. The Bulletin is determined to broaden its existing list of contributors to include more diverse voices committed to tackling such questions in new and innovative ways.

Fellows will offer the Bulletin's audience regular and expansive coverage of the Bulletin's core issues. In return, the Bulletin will provide fellows a globally recognized platform and engagement with its world-class editorial staff to ensure that fellows' work has the greatest possible circulation and impact.

The Bulletin equips the public, policymakers, and scientists with the information needed to reduce man-made threats to human existence. We publish a free-access website and a bimonthly magazine. The Bulletin focuses on three main areas: nuclear risk, climate change, and disruptive technologies, including biosafety and security and AI. What connects these topics is a driving belief that because humans created them, we can control them.
