Salary Range: For Illinois-based applicants $22.20 /hr – $30.53 /hr

Overview

The W BBM‑AM Traffic Center is looking for a dynamic professional to work in a fast‑paced environment as a traffic producer/reporter. Producer duties include gathering, writing, and selecting traffic information to run on‑air radio traffic reports, online, and on social media platforms. The role also requires managing multiple scanner frequencies, digital platforms, and maps for the production, writing, and presentation of traffic reports and digital content.

Reporter duties may include sports reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Gathering, writing, recording, editing, and delivering traffic reports as outlined by Audacy Inc.
  • Monitoring traffic gathering assets (e.g., traffic camera imagery, scanner listening).
  • Posting, editing, and managing traffic information on Audacy social media accounts (e.g., Twitter).
  • Voicing traffic reports on Audacy stations to air on broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Providing live reads of traffic sponsors within designated reports and logging commercials and discrepancies.
  • Other duties as required by management.
  • Position offers AFTRA benefits; applicants must be willing to join SAG‑AFTRA union.
Qualifications

Required & Preferred:

  • A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and proof of insurance if the position requires use of the applicant’s own vehicle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Chicago area and traffic geography.
  • Minimum of 2 years of traffic, news, and/or sports reporting for broadcast media.
  • Computer literate with excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to gather traffic information is a must.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast area geography and transportation systems is essential.
Role Expectations
  • Studio‑Based Reporting:
    Work from the studio to mitigate risks associated with internet or power outages that could disrupt reporting. Utilize the studio’s backup power and resources to ensure continuous operation.
  • Receive and Respond to Traffic Tips:
    Handle listener tip calls regarding traffic information, received by phone in the studio.
  • In‑Person Engagement:
    Collaborate directly with editors and news anchors to facilitate quick communication and coordination, especially in urgent traffic news situations.
  • Enhance Ratings through Studio Work:
    Contribute to improved PPM results by delivering uncompressed audio reports from the studio, positively impacting overall station ratings.
