The Dental Director is responsible to supervise dental providers, dental auxiliaries, and dental administrative staff; and to ensure that comprehensive, quality dental care is provided to adult and pediatric patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DENTAL DIRECTOR- Develop goals and objectives for the dental team; hire quality staff; supervise all personnel; perform staff reviews and performance evaluations; motivate and evaluate staff.
- Analyze dental practice’s needs; design and implement programs and procedures.
- Establish, review and maintain dental standards to assure quality of dental care provided for the Health Center’s consumers.
- Provide timely reports and feedback to the Medical Director and CEO on dental clinic functioning.
- Design, provide and/or oversee all in-service and procedural training for dental staff.
- Establish workflow, procedures, and operational improvements.
- Research problems and recommend solutions.
- Monitor use of budget throughout the year and prepare and submit the annual budget for the dental practice.
- Sourcing grant and funding opportunities; assist in the preparation of funding applications; coordinate the application process through conclusion.
- Provide diagnostic and therapeutic dental services to all patients; ensure medical history reviewed at every visit; chart and report all pathologic conditions; develop treatment plans with patient explanations; hold informed consent discussions; treat pain and infection; refer to specialists as necessary; enter and sign all treatment provided on the treatment form; meet clinical standards of practice; participate in the Quality Assurance Program bi‑annually as an assessed practitioner;
refer all staff or patient grievances to the Dental Director. - Supervise dental auxiliaries to his/her practice; instruct assigned dental assistants in chair‑side, laboratory, sterilization, and radiology procedures; oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the dental operation; delegate expanded duties in accordance with skills of dental auxiliary and within limits of State of Illinois law.
- Assure integration of patient education into all treatment phases; discuss home caretaking status and techniques with patients who demonstrate sub‑optimal plaque control; incorporate parent into education regime for every child under 10 years old (if possible); explain the importance of maintaining appointments to every patient.
- Prompt and accurate preparation and completion of records and reports of all examinations, procedures, and other services rendered by the Dentist as requested by the Health Center; place information into patient charts according to policies and procedures.
