Technical Assistance Consultant, Human and Community Development

Join AIR as a Technical Assistance (TA Consultant) with the Human and Community Development program to foster pathways for young people, families, and communities to thrive through the generation, dissemination, and application of evidence. This position will focus on prevention science with emphasis on preventing violence and other forms of harmful behaviors in the military. It will support teams aiming to build the infrastructure and the evidence for prevention, including evaluation planning and capacity building, data visualization, and military cultural competency.

We are especially interested in candidates with experience adapting prevention science to the military environment, primary prevention of violence and harmful behaviors, and leveraging military data and systems. Candidates with relevant lived experience, including military service, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Develop prevention and evaluation materials, implementation measures, and protocols for monitoring and providing feedback on implementation.
  • Deliver capacity building to support the prevention workforce in implementing prevention activities and/or improving their instruction using structured protocols.
  • Provide expertise on prevention research activities including, but not limited to, recruitment of study participants, development of implementation and related outcomes measures, data interpretation, and communication and dissemination.
  • Contribute to the development of reports that describe and interpret findings for clients, partners, including military leaders, and other relevant audiences.
  • Represent the organization in interactions with state, local, and site‑based staff; potential clients; and partner organizations.
  • Provide military cultural competency and capacity building for evaluation planning, implementation, and evaluation organizations and providers.
  • Work on collaborative project teams, including supervision of research/TA assistants and associates as a task or functional lead.
  • Contribute to team efforts to develop new business opportunities including strategic planning and partnership development, identification and pursuit of opportunities, and proposal development.
  • Manage or lead projects or tasks, with assumption of greater responsibility over time.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and

Experience:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in education or a Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based instructional practices and effective strategies for professional development and adult learning.
  • Experience providing direct training, capacity building, or technical assistance to military populations.
  • Familiarity with prevention strategies to support military communities from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Experience collaborating with military leaders, prevention workforce, researchers, or professional associations is preferred, but not required.
