Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides preventive, therapeutic, and educational hygiene services for patients at the Mile Square Health Center Dental Clinics.
- Works administratively on the recall system.
- Schedules patients overdue for prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance appointments.
- Examines teeth and surrounding hard and soft tissues for disease, lesions, and other abnormal conditions.
- Removes supra- and subgingival soft/hard deposits and stains from teeth and implants.
- Records periodontal charting in the electronic health record.
- Provides oral hygiene education and supplies to patients.
- Assists with research-related activities in patient outcomes assessments, including scheduling appointments, assisting in patient assessments, providing prophylaxis, sealants, and data collection/analysis.
- Processes digital radiographs (intraoral, panoramic, and occlusal).
- Administers local medicaments to periodontal involved areas.
- Administers anesthetic and nitrous in accordance with licensure guidelines.
- Administers fluoride.
- Takes preliminary impressions.
- Performs sterilization and disinfection as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned and participates in special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current/valid licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Illinois.
- Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of instruments, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures.
- Effective communication with faculty, students, staff, and patients.
- Ability to maintain an effective recall program and a productive environment.
- Intermediate level of experience with computer software such as Excel, Word, and electronic health records (EHR).
- Ability to obtain and record basic medical and dental histories and updates to patient appointment records.
