Faculty Open Rank (Tenure Track) in the Department of Oral Biology
The University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time faculty position of Faculty Open Rank (Tenure Track) in the Department of Oral Biology. As a nationally recognized leader in oral health education, patient-centered clinical care, and evidence-based research, the College is committed to advancing excellence in dental education and healthcare. The College of Dentistry is the largest oral health college in the State of Illinois, provides care for 35,000 patients a year, and has over 500 students seeking dental degrees including DMD, PhD and master's programs.
The Department of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry is recruiting for a well-trained and energetic individual to lead the research program and the educational content in the area of oral, dental and craniofacial sciences with emphasis on oral microbiology, salivary biology and microbiome research. The main tasks will be to build an innovative, collaborative, and well-funded research program, to develop and teach relevant content in predoctoral and graduate level courses and mentoring trainees in the MS and PhD Oral Sciences program.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain an externally funded, and independent research program focused on oral, dental, and craniofacial sciences with emphasis on oral microbiology, oral biofilm, salivary biology, microbiome research, and related areas that advance understanding of oral and systemic health, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches. Additional responsibilities include assisting with course development and assessment tools, particularly as lead content expert in the above-mentioned areas.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in oral biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, dentistry, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in oral microbiology, salivary biology, microbiome science, host–microbe interactions, or related areas of oral, dental, and craniofacial research. Candidates must have exemplary records of publications and research grants. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have one or more existing/transferable NIH funding.
Dual training clinician-scientists (i.e., DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree, and PhD degree) are preferred.
