Dental Assistant

• Assist dentist chairside during examination and treatment of patients
• Escort patients and prepare them for dental treatment
• Arrange dental instruments, materials and medications on chairside trays
• Maintain clean oral operating areas during procedures
• Prepare restorative materials and assist during dental and orthodontic procedures
• Prepare operating rooms and procedure suites for dental procedures
• Assist with dental services performed under general anesthesia
• Ensure dental equipment is in working order
• Take x-rays and maintain x-ray equipment
• Perform coronal polishing as assigned
• Prepare instruments and hand pieces for sterilization; inventory and store instruments
• Keep operatories clean and stocked
• Answer telephone when clerical staff is unavailable
• Prepare patient charts and enter dentist-dictated notations in a computer-based program
• Obtain information for scheduling next visits and perform patient support clerical activities
• Take dental impressions, send them to the lab, and assist with appliance deliveries
• Deliver medications and pharmaceutical products to appropriate patient care providers
• Orient new and contingent dental assistant staff
• Participate in department process improvement activities
• Maintain the water purification system
• Keep the daily AED functionality log

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum one year experience in private practice
• Some computer skills required
• Certified CPR required
• Ability to travel to different sites as needed
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Completion of an approved dental assistant program is preferred
• Pediatric dental experience is preferred

Demonstrates expertise in chairside assistance during dental procedures, including preparation of instruments and materials, patient care, and maintaining a sterile environment. Proficient in taking x-rays, performing coronal polishing, and managing patient records in a computer-based system.
