Starting Salary: $90,144.00
New hires are paid the starting rate. Current employees' pay rate is determined by their job title and years of service.

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNITS 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, the class independently performs senior-level professional architectural duties in connection with the design, construction, and renovation of moderate scale projects of municipal buildings, facilities, and structures, and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Reviews architectural plans and designs for construction and renovation projects of varying size, scope, and complexity to ensure adherence to established design criteria and requirements.
- Conducts field site visits to ensure conformance to architectural plans and project time schedules, and to make or approve design changes.
- Meets with departmental staff, developers, other architects, general contractors, and consultants to determine and/or revise scope of work, design, and technical specifications for moderate scale construction or renovation projects.
- Provides reviews of design, construction drawings, specifications, and contractor bids for new multi-family construction and rehabilitation projects to ensure compliance with departmental architectural design and technical, federal, state, and other city standards.
- Establishes timelines, implements processes, and monitors the progress of assigned projects.
- Leads internal design reviews with developers, architects, general contractors, and other city departments.
- Communicates meeting outcomes to attendees.
- Reviews general contractor change order request packages for accuracy and consistency with department policy and provides feedback and recommendations on reviewed requests.
- Prepares analysis and related reports on the status and costs of architectural projects.
- Tracks and maintains required documentation for assigned projects.
- Assists the public in interpreting department architectural and technical standard requirements.
- Responds to general inquiries from the public by phone, letter, and email.
- May advise less experienced architects on the preparation and review of architectural plans and drawings.
Additional duties may be required for this position.

Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, supplemented by at least two (2) years of professional architectural work experience, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Architecture, supplemented by at least one (1) year of professional architectural work experience.
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:- Previous work experience reviewing or preparing architectural drawings
- Previous work experience with Chicago or other municipal zoning codes
- Previous work experience with city, state, and/or federal building codes
- American Institute of Architects (AIA) license
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
