Junior Designer – City Design (Year One Program)
Join SOM’s Year One Program as a Junior Designer in the City Design practice. The program builds on formal education with a series of events, initiatives, and project responsibilities designed to accelerate learning and creativity during your first year.
Position ResponsibilitiesGenerate planning and design ideas, conduct research, document precedents and scale studies, develop diagrams, renders, and site plans, and support all graphic and visual production. Use SOM City Design practice protocols for file management, planning and design processes, and quality control. Demonstrate understanding of planning and urban design concepts, building typologies, infrastructure systems, land development and zoning, phasing, and implementation. Enrich design concepts through research and technical visualisation skills, using software and analogue/digital tools across all project phases.
Apply strong conceptual design ability to projects of varying complexity and scales, integrating interdisciplinary criteria. Communicate internally with written, oral, and visual tools, collaborate with project teams, manage time to meet deadlines, and participate in the City Design Practice and Year One Program activities.
