Interiors Project Designer

Position Overview

The Interior Project Designer coordinates project production efforts and technical documentation to support successful project delivery in alignment with Baker Barrios Architects’ standards for quality, schedule, budget, and design intent. This role works closely with project leadership, consultants, and design teams to ensure the accuracy, coordination, and constructability of interior project documentation throughout all phases of the project.

This individual exercises strong technical knowledge, organization, and communication skills while supporting project teams through design development, construction documentation, furniture coordination, and construction administration activities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Identify, track, and document changes in project scope.
  • Coordinate drawing progress, redlines, and interdisciplinary reviews.
  • Verify the accuracy and quality of project documentation and coordinate quality control efforts.
  • Assist in mentoring and supporting junior staff development.
  • Participate in project budget and scheduling review discussions.
  • Support the design team by interpreting design intent, code requirements, and technical solutions as they apply to interior projects.
  • Prepare and coordinate Design Development documentation and project-specific detailing.
  • Review and coordinate standard BBA details for project applicability.
  • Develop construction documentation packages with appropriate organization, annotation, dimensions, detailing, and coordination.
  • Coordinate with project teams to prepare complete and accurate deliverables aligned with project schedules and budgets.
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of FF&E specifications and documentation.
  • Respond to review comments and coordinate revisions required for project approvals.
  • Participate in construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, change orders, CA logs, and site observations.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals related to architectural and furniture scopes.
  • Attend project and site meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field from an accredited institution preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • General to intermediate understanding of interior codes, national and local code requirements, FF&E coordination, and construction practices.
  • Accurate, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to research and apply interior design codes, ordinances, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to solve technical challenges creatively while maintaining design intent.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining effective communication and quality control.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively take direction, provide direction, and ask questions.
  • Understanding of construction practices, detailing, specifications, and coordination processes.
  • Positive and professional attitude toward clients, team members, leadership, and firm initiatives.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and actively pursuing licensure.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and specification/sourcing platforms.
