Interior Designer II – Hospitality + Commercial Architecture

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Experience: 3–6 Years

Design That Strengthens Brands and Serves People.

At DxU Architects, we believe every successful project begins with understanding the client's journey. Great design isn't simply about creating beautiful spaces—it's about strengthening brands, serving people, and helping our clients achieve their goals.

Join us in guiding clients from vision to reality through professional stewardship, thoughtful design, technical excellence, and trusted partnership.

We're seeking an Interior Designer II who is passionate about hospitality and commercial design and wants to grow within a collaborative architectural practice. If you're energized by creating memorable experiences, solving complex design challenges, and making a meaningful impact on every project, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

As an Interior Designer II, you'll contribute throughout the design process—from early concepts through construction—working closely with architects, designers, consultants, and clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop interior design concepts, finish palettes, and presentation materials.
  • Prepare construction documents including plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, finish plans, and interior details.
  • Select and specify finishes, furnishings, lighting, fixtures, and accessories.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • Participate in client meetings, design presentations, and project coordination.
  • Conduct product research and evaluate materials for quality, durability, constructability, sustainability, and budget.
  • Support construction administration through site visits and review of field conditions.
  • Help maintain project schedules, organization, and project documentation.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from an accredited program.
  • 3–6 years of professional commercial interior design experience.
  • Hospitality, restaurant, retail, workplace, or mixed‑use experience preferred.
  • NCIDQ certification or progress toward licensure is a plus.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite, and visualization software such as Enscape or Lumion.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction documentation and detailing.
  • Experience selecting and specifying commercial finishes, furnishings, lighting, and fixtures.
  • Working knowledge of building materials, accessibility requirements, and applicable building codes.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, BIM collaboration, and specification writing is a plus.
What Makes You Successful at DxU

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about hospitality and experience‑driven design.
  • Curious, creative, and committed to continuous learning.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and accountable.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional, client‑focused, and an effective communicator.
  • Ready to take ownership of project responsibilities while mentoring and supporting junior team members.

As an Interior Designer II, you'll begin leading portions of projects, coordinating consultants and vendors, mentoring entry‑level designers, and taking ownership of project deliverables from concept through construction.

Why DxU?
