Principal Abdominal Donor Procurement Surgeon (Liver Transplant) Job Location

United States (Nationwide Travel)

The Principal Abdominal Donor Procurement Surgeon plays a critical role in performing surgical liver retrievals and ensuring high-quality donor organ assessment and procurement. This position focuses on standardizing surgical processes, maximizing organ quality, and supporting transplant programs across the United States through expert clinical and surgical evaluation.

• Perform all aspects of abdominal donor procurement surgery, including:
• Donor organ clinical assessment
• Surgical liver retrieval
• Ensure all surgical activities meet the highest clinical quality standards and established protocols
• Maintain and uphold surgical retrieval quality benchmarks
• Participate in the development and optimization of donor organ procurement, management, assessment, and communication protocols
• Train, mentor, and support abdominal surgical retrieval teams, including proctoring junior surgeons when required
• Conduct full surgical assessment and organ instrumentation procedures, including back-table vascular anastomoses when needed
• Communicate surgical findings and assessments to accepting transplant surgeons to support donor acceptance decisions
• Coordinate with internal clinical teams regarding organ status to facilitate allocation and logistics
• Perform additional duties as required to support transplant and organ procurement operations

• This position does not include direct people management responsibilities.

• Ability to travel extensively across the United States
• Must meet hospital credentialing and vendor compliance requirements
• COVID-19 vaccination (including boosters) required, subject to applicable legal accommodations

• Minimum of 5+ years experience in deceased donor abdominal organ procurement and assessment and/or advanced abdominal surgery
• At least 2+ years experience as a primary liver procurement surgeon
• Proven experience with DBD and/or DCD donor retrievals
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure clinical environments
• Proficiency with electronic communication tools and MS Office Suite
• Documented surgical logbook of donor retrievals
