Position Summary

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a pediatric ophthalmologist with a track record in healthcare leadership and program development for the position of Section Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain effective education programs in Pediatric Ophthalmology for medical students and residents. Collaborate with other faculty in maintaining excellence in general pediatric education.
  • Stimulate and nurture scholarly activity within the Division and strengthen current research portfolio.
  • Expand clinical service program to meet regional needs.
  • Develop a vision for expansion and growth of current clinical services.
  • Provide leadership to support the faculty in the Division of Ophthalmology to achieve excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research.
  • Sustain an existing supportive and collaborative environment for other subspecialists, facilitating programs that care for high‑complexity patients.
  • Support quality improvement efforts and safety initiatives within the Division and Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
  • Direct and conduct personal research in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
  • Provide care for patients with ophthalmologic diseases admitted to Children’s Hospital of Illinois, consultation and support to other services, and manage patients in ambulatory clinics.
  • Collaborate with other ancillary services to provide high quality, safe, and individualized patient‑ and family‑centered care.
  • Perform duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development and administration.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD/DO or compatible international medical degree.
  • 3 years ophthalmology residency and 1‑year AAPOS‑approved pediatric ophthalmology fellowship.
  • Board‑Certified in Ophthalmology.
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • 3‑5 years clinical experience in pediatric ophthalmology.
  • Experience teaching medical students and residents in pediatric ophthalmology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience in program development.
  • Mentorship of other faculty clinicians.
