Position Profile
:
- Direct UK teaching experience preferred
- Minimum 2 years AL/IGCSE/AP teaching experience in the relevant area
- Ability to teach high achieving students
- Degree in area of expertise for teaching
- Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent)
Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position:
- To plan and deliver lessons according to Scheme of Work using a variety of learning activities
- To create and conduct assessments according to departmental schemes of assessment and produce reports which meet the required standards in a timely fashion
- To regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and design appropriate evaluations to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement
- To collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, sharing best practices and resources

Brief Description of SCIE:
UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) teaching through the medium of English to mainly Chinese students preparing for overseas universities.
We also run an AP stream since 2025, hence there are some opportunities for teachers interested in AP teaching in various subjects.
The mission of the College is to educate Students in a Challenging, International Environment leading to academic achievement at the highest level, and to develop Social responsibility, Creativity, Independence and Enthusiasm, providing each student with the best preparation for future opportunities.

Subject Department Introduction:
Chemistry has 20 full-time teachers and 6 technicians, working in our 11 purpose-built labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Chemistry in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Chemistry in UK Years 12 and 13. AP Chemistry is also offered to KS5 students whose trajectory better suits taking it. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with about two thirds of the cohort taking it at AS level and half the cohort at A Level.
Results are very high, with over 86% achieving A/A
* at IGCSE and almost 74% at A Level Chemistry in the most recent CAIE exams. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Chemistry courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Materials Sciences courses at Oxbridge.
The ideal candidate will be willing to adapt to the dynamics of the current team, be a pro-active team member and be passionate about incorporating regular practical work into their teaching repertoire. Experience of teaching Chemistry at the highest levels is a basic expectation and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Chemistry or Biochemistry will be an advantage. Being willing and able to ‘teach to the top’ and scaffold up is essential;
the successful candidate will be expert in providing regular opportunities for ‘hard thinking’ and will consistently use checking for understanding techniques, to make learning adaptive.
