Position: Middle School Grade (6-8) Teacher (Future Opportunities)

Primary Professional Function

Middle

School Grade 6‑8 Teacher Program Description

Middle School students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, broaden their reading and understanding of community and world issues, and learn to make good decisions and act independently as they prepare for high school. With teacher guidance, students explore content area subjects while developing academic vocabulary, note‑taking skills, and test‑taking strategies. Teachers focus on curriculum integration in the humanities, math, science, and world language, and use technology, cooperative projects, and experiments to build young adult learning skills.

Extracurricular activities in sports, drama, music, and art provide additional opportunities for growth and independence.

Duties / Responsibilities

The Middle School Teacher facilitates the cognitive development of all learners by providing a quality learning experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to the unique Catholic mission and interfaith values of FXW School.
  • Articulating a working knowledge of FXW’s value‑centered mission and academically rigorous curricular goals.
  • Participating in spiritual development activities and supporting student community service projects.
  • Modeling the importance of daily prayer and worship through active participation with students.
  • Planning, encouraging, and participating in community‑building activities (religious, social, and educational).
  • Utilizing effective instructional strategies and assessment tools that develop higher‑level thinking skills.
  • Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of subject matter and understanding interrelationships of content areas.
  • Regularly using formative and summative assessment to guide instruction and employing technology to enhance teaching.
  • Presenting lessons in multiple modalities to address diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Encouraging students to become aware of social issues and current events appropriate to their level of understanding.
  • Creating and managing a classroom that is positive, respectful, visually stimulating, orderly, and safe.
  • Mentoring students effectively and professionally.
  • Completing annual goals and seeking professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrating professional responsibility by staying current with practice and research, and collaborating with administration to further yearly goals.
  • Maintaining a positive rapport with all members of the FXW community, accepting feedback, and showing improvement.
  • Respecting the integrity of staff, students, and parents, being discreet and tactful in discussions.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and modeling collegiality, fulfilling routine duties and expectations reliably.
  • Planning and preparing lesson plans with clear student‑centered objectives, incorporating backward design and formative/summative assessments.
  • Using instructional time efficiently and evaluating student progress effectively.
  • Communicating correctly in conversations, reports, and meetings.
  • Performing supervisory duties such as dance, music rehearsal, morning, lunch, after‑school supervision (e.g., study or homework club), and curb or bus duty.
  • Willingly using and integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Maintaining an up‑to‑date Gradebook, Teacher Website, and Lesson Plans, and writing narrative reports professionally and grammatically correctly.
  • Participating effectively in Round‑table Student Evaluation sessions and leading parent‑student‑teacher conferences bi‑annually.
  • Being punctual for and actively participating in weekly grade‑level curriculum meetings.
  • Fulfilling additional coverage duties as requested by Administration.
