Job Summary

The candidate will teach lower school (3rd–5th grade) and middle school (6th–8th grade) courses with Mandarin Chinese as the primary language of instruction. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues across faculties and departments, as well as with parents, administrators, and other school staff. Curriculum design and instruction in the World Language Department follow ACTFL standards and best practices.

Responsibilities
  • The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues across faculties and departments, as well as parents, administrators, and other members of the school staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in a broad range of pedagogical techniques and best practices in world language instruction, including the use of technology in the world language classroom.
  • Fill this maternity leave position with an anticipated start date January 2026 – June 2026.
Competencies
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and dynamics in the classroom and in developing healthy, supportive relationships with all students.
  • Strong knowledge of course subject matter and instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to develop curricula, lesson plans, and assessment tools; analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of technology-based instruction preferred.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience teaching World Languages in primary or secondary education required.
  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and in English required; curriculum development experience preferred.
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move within the classroom and building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others.
  • Ability to move classroom equipment as needed; escort students during arrivals, dismissals, and emergencies when appropriate.
