Harold Washington College (HWC), one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is located in the heart of Chicago’s Loop and serves over 9,000 students in college credit and continuing education programs. HWC is a federally designated Hispanic‑Serving Institution (HSI) and Minority‑Serving Institution, supporting a student body that is over 75 percent Black and Latine.

The Associate Dean – CTE Focus provides academic leadership and operational management for credit and non‑credit programs in CTE. The role is accountable for developing and administering instructional programs; hiring and evaluating faculty; developing and overseeing the budget; maintaining programmatic accreditations; and strengthening instruction and the learning environment to ensure student success. The position also leads key grants and resource development for the college, including Perkins.

Primary

Objective

This position ensures quality instruction and assists in the continuous improvement of educational programs by evaluating faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Evaluate full‑time and part‑time faculty to ensure continuity of quality classroom instruction; recommend enhancement, retention, or non‑retention; provide written and verbal feedback on instructional quality according to Board/Union Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Coordinate and direct evaluation, review, and implementation of innovative curriculum additions and revisions; review course outlines and syllabi; offer feedback and assistance.
  • Assist the VP and Dean of Instruction in the tenure and post‑tenure process.
  • Assist with comprehensive orientation programs for full‑time and part‑time faculty.
  • Work with the Office of Research to plan and conduct research.
  • Represent the college to community organizations and agencies and participate on district‑wide committees.
  • Serve as weekend and/or evening administrator for the College.
  • Adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Direct Supervision:
Clerical Support Staff, Professional Support Staff
Indirect Supervision:
Full‑time Faculty, Part‑time Faculty

Qualifications
  • Completion of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership position in a higher education setting.
  • Training, participation, and/or knowledge of higher education accreditation procedures, articulation process, assessment and program review.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in work experience.
  • Experience in a union setting preferred.
  • Ability to create a learning environment that fosters student success.
