English Tutor – Part Time

Olive‑Harvey is currently seeking a Part‑time English Tutor to join our team. The Tutor bridges the gap between the college and the needs of the student, helping them make academic progress while promoting independent learning and self‑reliance. We strive to provide high‑quality educational programs and support services to ensure academic and future success for all our students. Students are encouraged to seek tutoring opportunities to gain a deeper comprehension of course content and to enhance the learning environment.

• Attends periodic training sessions given by staff members to increase competency in working with students.
• Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas.
• Assists in designing and implementing class cooperative projects.
• Establishes and maintains rapport with the assigned students.
• Establishes liaison with the instructor and works under the instructor’s direction to assist the student.
• Helps students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
• Helps students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying, fostering motivation in academic areas.
• Maintains records on each student being tutored, including follow‑up and periodic assessment.
• Provides evaluations and other reports as required by staff.
• Schedules tutoring appointments.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in English Language and Literature, Creative Writing, or similar fields of study.
• Specific additional requirements or certifications may be required depending on the assignment area.
• Completion of tutoring certification preferred.
• Experience in teaching, tutoring, or delivering academic support to students at the postsecondary instructional level is strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a large, urban community college environment with a diverse cultural and ethnic student body is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse student body.
• Self‑directed with the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
• Rate: $20.69/hour
• Position scheduled up to 29 hours per week; in‑person role requiring campus presence for each scheduled shift.
